About

Youn-Kyoung Baek is a rising leader in soft robotics and advanced functional materials, whose work is redefining how machines perceive and interact with the world. Her research centers on the material-level integration of actuation and sensing, with a particular focus on magnetoelastic and triboelectric mechanisms for next-generation human–machine interfaces. In her highly cited 2023 work, Baek introduced highly compressible 3D-printed soft magnetoelastic sensors that combine self-powering capability with a wide working range and tunable functionality—a breakthrough that earned 18 citations and opened new pathways for embedding perception into robots and everyday objects.
