About
Yaoyao Bai is a rising innovator in the field of flexible and bio-inspired electronics, with a primary focus on developing high-performance strain and pressure sensors for soft robotics and wearable monitoring. Her major contributions center on overcoming the inherent limitations of crack-based flexible strain sensors—namely, poor stability and nonlinearity—by introducing novel structural and preload-driven stabilization strategies. In her highly cited 2024 work, Bai designed a leaf-like mechanosensor that leverages fatigue crack propagation to achieve both flow detection and motion monitoring, demonstrating exceptional sensitivity (gauge factor up to 2,000) and a fast response time (0.28 s) for amphibious reconnaissance robot applications. This work, garnering 21 citations, offers a new paradigm for sensor durability and functionality in harsh environments. Bai further advanced the field with a preload-driven dual stabilization approach, enabling ultra-stable and linear sensing performance, and has explored hierarchically structured Ni-enhanced carbon nanotube composites for high-performance pressure sensors. Her research not only pushes the boundaries of flexible electronics but also holds transformative potential for miniature robots, electronic skin, and hydrophones, marking her as a key contributor to next-generation intelligent sensing systems.
