About

Yangbo Yuan is pioneering the next generation of flexible sensors that can withstand the real-world deformations of soft robotics and wearable electronics. His research focuses on decoupling complex mechanical signals—such as bending, stretching, and pressure—to create crosstalk-free sensor arrays. Yuan’s most impactful work, a flexible tensile strain-pressure sensor with off-axis deformation-insensitivity (79 citations), directly tackles the critical challenge of signal interference on deformable surfaces. He further advanced the field with a bending- and stretching-insensitive pressure sensor array for human-machine interactions (45 citations) and an iontronic capacitance-enhanced three-dimensional force sensor with ultrahigh sensitivity (25 citations). His contributions extend to gas-permeable, resilient antenna designs for wireless strain and temperature sensing, addressing practical issues of wearability and comfort. By developing robust decoupling strategies, as summarized in his recent review (2026), Yuan is enabling reliable data acquisition from sensors mounted on complex 3D freeform surfaces—a key step toward seamless integration of electronics into clothing, prosthetics, and soft robotic systems.
