About
Xinrui Yang is pioneering the integration of soft robotics and autonomous aerial systems for intelligent infrastructure maintenance. Her research centers on three interconnected domains: aerial soft-continuum manipulators, system-of-systems robotics, and quality control in 3D concrete printing. Yang’s most impactful contribution is the integrated design of an aerial robot equipped with a soft-continuum manipulator for predictive maintenance in construction—a concept that enables remote crack localization and adaptive material deposition for in situ repairs. Her work on System of Robotic Systems (SoRS) for crack predictive maintenance, published in 2021, advances autonomous and collaborative robotization for built heritage preservation. More recently, she has developed methodologies for online quality monitoring of 3D concrete printing, including automatic detection and isolation of filament width deviations during additive manufacturing with recycled construction materials.
