About

Xinkai Yu is pioneering the next generation of gastrointestinal diagnostics through innovative magnetic-driven capsule robotics. His research centers on developing active locomotion and sampling mechanisms for wireless capsule endoscopes, addressing the critical limitations of passive movement that has long constrained traditional intestinal examinations. Yu’s most impactful work, the “Inchworm-Like Biomimetic Magnetic-Driven Robotic Shell” (2024, 15 citations), introduces a bio-inspired design that enables capsule endoscopes to actively navigate tubular environments, dramatically improving diagnostic reach and control. Building on this foundation, his hybrid magnetic locomotion method (2025) combines multiple actuation modes to enhance efficiency across the complex gastrointestinal tract, while his design for a magnetic-actuated capsule robot (2025) achieves liquid sampling through a novel negative pressure suction principle. These contributions represent significant strides toward fully autonomous, multifunctional capsule robots capable of both diagnosis and intervention. Yu’s work is particularly notable for its practical translational potential, offering concrete solutions to long-standing challenges in minimally invasive gastroenterology. His research continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in medical robotics, promising safer, more effective, and less invasive diagnostic procedures for patients worldwide.
