About
Suyoung Kang is a pioneering robotics researcher whose work focuses on advancing autonomous navigation in extreme environments—from the microgravity of the International Space Station (ISS) to the steep, sloped streets of urban landscapes. Her most impactful contribution is the creation of the first annotated benchmark datasets for free-flyer visual-inertial localization and mapping, collected using NASA’s Astrobee robots aboard the ISS. This foundational work (9 citations, 2024) enables researchers to evaluate navigation algorithms in zero-g spacecraft interiors, a critical step toward autonomous intra-vehicular robotics for future space missions.
