About
Sima Ghafoori is a rising researcher at the intersection of rehabilitation robotics and human-machine interaction. Her work focuses on two critical challenges in assistive technology: achieving seamless, safe physical interaction and enabling intuitive control through noisy biosignals. Ghafoori’s major contribution is the development of a novel magnetic-based actuating mechanism for end-effector rehabilitation platforms, which eliminates the need for complex mechanical linkages and multiple contact sensors, thereby creating smoother and safer human-robot interactions for upper limb motor training. This work has been presented in multiple publications (2024–2025, accumulating over 7 citations). She also introduced the STREAMS framework, an assistive multimodal AI system that fuses unreliable muscle activity and brainwave signals to generate robust, jerk-free robotic trajectories.
