About
Shen Yuan is an emerging researcher at the forefront of flexible sensor technology, with a particular focus on bioinspired tactile sensing, multimodal perception, and human-machine interaction. Drawing inspiration from the remarkable sensory capabilities of human skin, Yuan's work centers on developing next-generation flexible sensors that replicate and even extend biological sensing mechanisms for applications in robotics, biomedicine, and intelligent systems. Yuan's most impactful contribution — a multifunctional ionic flexible sensor achieving 87 citations since 2023 — demonstrated how ionic hydrogel-based devices could produce nerve-compatible output signals, advancing tactile perception for human-machine interfaces. Building on this foundation, Yuan has pioneered increasingly sophisticated sensing architectures, including an optical-thermal integrated sensor capable of identifying liquid properties in non-contact mode, a proprioceptive Janus fiber enabling self-sensing actuation in soft robots, and a trimodal force-thermal-magnetic sensor for metallic material recognition. Most recently, Yuan has incorporated machine learning algorithms alongside MXene-perovskite aerogel composites to achieve decoupled multimodal sensing of pressure, temperature, and ultraviolet stimuli simultaneously.
