Sepehr Ghassemi is a roboticist redefining what legged locomotion can be—and what it should weigh. His research centers on non-anthropomorphic bipedal robots and lightweight, safe, and agile robotic systems, challenging the conventional trade-off between stability and complexity. Ghassemi’s most influential work introduced BALLU (Buoyancy Assisted Lightweight Legged Unit), a radically novel robot that uses buoyancy to achieve unprecedented safety and energy efficiency.
