About
Sangshin Park is a robotics researcher whose work bridges the gap between mechanical design and real-world autonomy. His primary research areas include mobile robotics, teleoperation systems, and adaptive manipulation. Park’s most influential contribution is the design of a multi-degrees-of-freedom two-wheeled inverted pendulum robot (mD-TWIPR), a novel platform that extends the classic segway concept for off-road transportation. This work, published in 2023, has already garnered 14 citations, demonstrating its immediate impact on the field of field robotics. He also advanced teleoperation by proposing an intuitive master controller that functionally separates actuators for movement and gravity compensation, a technique that improves task performance in human-robot collaboration. Most recently, Park has developed a hydraulic-driven adaptive gripper with a self-adaptive finger mechanism, designed to handle diverse objects in heavy industrial environments. By integrating hydraulic actuation with adaptive mechanics, his gripper addresses critical challenges in field robotics. Park’s work consistently focuses on creating practical, high-performance robotic systems that can operate in unstructured and demanding settings, making him a notable contributor to the next generation of mobile and manipulation robots.
