About

Ruiping Zou is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of soft robotics, microfluidics, and advanced functional materials. Her work centers on harnessing the unique properties of gallium-based liquid metal alloys (GLMAs) to create stretchable, deformable systems for biomedical sensing, transient devices, and mechanoelectrical energy conversion. In her highly cited 2020 study (66 citations), Zou demonstrated how liquid metal-based magnetoelectric films can achieve remarkable stretchability while converting mechanical strain into electrical signals—a breakthrough for wearable health monitors and soft robotic sensors. More recently, she has advanced the field of microrobotics by developing a 3D-printed microfluidic device capable of fabricating soft, hollow, double-network magnetic microrobots (2025). This innovation enables precise, minimally invasive biomedical applications, such as targeted drug delivery and microsurgery. With a growing citation impact and a portfolio that bridges materials science, microengineering, and robotics, Zou is shaping the future of intelligent, body-compliant technologies. Her work exemplifies how liquid metals and microfluidic fabrication can unlock new frontiers in adaptive, responsive systems.
