About

Qianpeng Zhang is pioneering the next generation of artificial vision systems by drawing inspiration from nature and leveraging advanced nanomaterials. His research centers on bioinspired photodetectors, perovskite nanowire arrays, and neuromorphic vision hardware. Zhang’s most impactful contribution is the development of an ultrawide field-of-view pinhole compound eye using hemispherical nanowire arrays, published in 2024 and already garnering 72 citations. This work overcomes the complexity and geometric constraints of transformable electronics, offering a streamlined route to robot vision with panoramic perception. In a complementary study, he demonstrated geometric shape recognition using ultra-high density perovskite nanowire arrays, achieving 8 citations. By exploiting halide perovskites’ superior photoresponse, his artificial vision systems integrate both preprocessing and processing functions, mimicking the human visual pathway. Zhang’s innovations hold transformative potential for visual prosthetics and intelligent robotics, establishing him as a rising leader in bioinspired optoelectronics and neuromorphic engineering.
