About

Yucheng Ding is pioneering the frontier of bioinspired vision and olfactory systems, engineering artificial sensory platforms that rival—and in some cases surpass—their biological counterparts. His core research spans biomimetic electronics, nanowire array architectures, and neuromorphic imaging, where he has made transformative contributions. Ding’s landmark 2024 work on biomimetic olfactory chips, integrating large-scale monolithically connected nanotube sensor arrays, has already garnered 151 citations, establishing a new paradigm for electronic noses. He further advanced artificial vision by developing an ultrawide field-of-view pinhole compound eye using hemispherical nanowire arrays (72 citations), directly inspired by insect biology to overcome the geometric constraints of conventional transformable electronics. In parallel, Ding created a dual-mode image sensor based on all-inorganic perovskite nanowire arrays (32 citations) that seamlessly combines standard and neuromorphic imaging, emulating the high-density retinal neuron array for efficient visual processing. His ultra-high density perovskite nanowire array artificial vision system (8 citations) demonstrates geometric shape recognition, underscoring the practical potential for visual prosthetics and intelligent robotics. Through these innovations, Ding is not only redefining the limits of artificial sensory systems but also laying the groundwork for next-generation autonomous machines and human-machine interfaces.
