Norman S. Kopeika is a leading figure in optical and electro-optical engineering, with foundational contributions to image restoration and atmospheric optics. His most celebrated work, the 1998 paper "Direct method for restoration of motion-blurred images" (157 citations), introduced a practical, non-iterative technique to correct blur caused by camera or object movement—critical for applications in robotics, handheld photography, and vehicular imaging. This method remains a cornerstone in digital image processing.
