About
Meejeong Choi is a rising leader in soft robotics and smart materials, whose work is pioneering new frontiers in haptic interfaces and artificial muscles. Her research centers on the development of novel, high-performance actuators and sensors that bridge the gap between soft, deformable structures and robust, functional devices. A key contribution is her work on shape-morphing displays, where she introduced a hydraulically coupled, mergeable and splittable PVC gel actuator. This innovation, detailed in her most-cited paper (31 citations, 2024), enables rapid, seamless transformation of surfaces to convey complex tactile information, overcoming a major hurdle in creating multimodal haptic displays. Complementing this, Choi has addressed a critical challenge in artificial muscles by engineering a thermo-mechanically robust, compliant electrode for twisted and coiled nylon-6 fibers.
