About
Manzhao Yao is a leading innovator in the field of flexible electronics and biomimetic sensing, with a primary focus on developing advanced electronic skin (e-skin) technologies. His most impactful work addresses a critical challenge in the field: the ability to decouple and simultaneously detect multiple stimuli—specifically stretching strain, vertical pressure, and temperature—using a single, simple sensor architecture. In his highly cited 2024 paper, Yao introduced a groundbreaking biomimetic mechanoreceptor based on a stretchable ionogel combined with crumpled conductive rubber electrodes. This design elegantly mimics human skin’s sensory capabilities, enabling synchronous and distinguishable detection of complex mechanical and thermal inputs. This work, which has already garnered 21 citations shortly after publication, represents a significant leap toward practical e-skin for applications in human–computer interaction, intelligent robotics, and health monitoring. By simplifying the sensor structure while enhancing multifunctionality, Yao’s contributions are paving the way for more intuitive and robust wearable devices, marking him as a rising talent in the next generation of soft electronics research.
