About
Limei Tian is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of flexible electronics, bioelectronics, and nanophotonics, whose work has fundamentally advanced the development of wearable and implantable sensing technologies. Her most celebrated contribution, "Large-area MRI-compatible epidermal electronic interfaces for prosthetic control and cognitive monitoring" (2019), has garnered nearly 400 citations, establishing her as a leading voice in next-generation human-machine interfaces. This landmark work demonstrated how thin, skin-conforming electronic systems could enable sophisticated prosthetic control and brain monitoring without interfering with clinical MRI imaging — a critical practical barrier the field had long struggled to overcome. Tian has also made significant contributions to electronic skin technology, co-developing 3D-printed e-skin capable of simultaneously detecting strain, pressure, and temperature, pushing wearable robotics and healthcare monitoring forward. Earlier in her career, she pioneered "plasmonic calligraphy," an elegant technique for creating multiplexed surface-enhanced Raman scattering substrates enabling label-free detection of complex chemical and biological mixtures. Spanning biosensing, nanophotonics, and soft bioelectronics, Tian's body of work reflects a remarkable breadth of innovation with real-world implications for medicine, robotics, and human augmentation technologies.
