About

Lichun Zhu is a pioneering engineer and researcher whose work has been instrumental in the realization of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST)—the world’s largest and most sensitive single-dish radio telescope. His key research areas include innovative telescope engineering, control systems, and measurement technology for mega-science radio astronomy facilities. Zhu’s major contributions center on the groundbreaking engineering concept and design of FAST, which paved a new, cost-effective path to constructing enormous single-dish telescopes. He also developed the critical control algorithms and software for astronomical tracking of FAST’s focus cabin suspension system, enabling precise observations.
