K. Wiersema is an observational astrophysicist specializing in the multiwavelength and polarimetric study of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). Their research focuses on the broad-band spectral evolution and polarization properties of GRB afterglows, using a combination of space-based observatories like Swift and Fermi alongside ground-based facilities such as the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), the Very Large Telescope (VLT), and the MASTER Global Robotic Network. A major contribution is the detailed mapping of the energetic GRB 080810, one of the first bursts observed simultaneously by Swift and Fermi, which provided crucial insight into early afterglow physics (56 citations).
