Ji Hwan Bae is a robotics researcher whose work focuses on the design and control of continuum robots, particularly those intended for safe human-robot interaction. His key research areas include soft robotics, pneumatic artificial muscles, and sensor-based state estimation for flexible manipulators. In his most-cited work, "Development of an Intrinsic Continuum Robot and Attitude Estimation of Its End-Effector Based on a Kalman Filter" (2015), Bae introduced a novel continuum robot design that uses pneumatic artificial muscles in an antagonistic configuration, mimicking human musculature.
