Jeffrey S. Pulskamp is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), piezoelectric actuation, and micro-robotics. His work has been instrumental in advancing the development of biologically inspired autonomous micro-robots, with a particular focus on creating the enabling technologies — actuators, sensors, and power systems — that make millimeter-scale robotic platforms feasible. Pulskamp's most influential contribution, "Thin-Film Piezoelectric Actuators for Bio-Inspired Micro-Robotic Applications" (2007, 31 citations), demonstrated that thin-film piezoelectric devices could generate forces sufficient to rival biological locomotion systems, a breakthrough for the field.
