About

Guanqi He is pioneering the frontier of aerial manipulation, developing intelligent systems that enable drones to go beyond passive observation and actively interact with their environment. His research centers on the control, teleoperation, and learning of fully-actuated Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for complex, high-altitude tasks. He’s best known for his foundational work on image-based visual servo control for aerial manipulation, a contribution that has garnered over 20 citations and demonstrated how UAVs can safely and precisely perform industrial tasks—reducing the cost, time, and risk for human workers. More recently, He introduced the "Flying Hand" framework, an end-effector-centric approach that decouples hardware design from task-specific control. This breakthrough, already cited 6 times since its 2025 publication, enables versatile teleoperation and policy learning, allowing a single aerial platform to adapt to a wide range of manipulation tasks without extensive re-engineering.
