About
Fred Moshary is a leading figure in atmospheric remote sensing and air quality monitoring, whose work bridges the gap between satellite observations and ground-level environmental health. His primary research focuses on aerosol optical depth (AOD) retrieval, particularly over complex urban scenes, and the development of radiometer networks for distributed aerosol monitoring. Moshary’s most impactful contribution is his 2009 paper on improved MODIS aerosol retrieval using a modified VIS/SWIR surface albedo ratio, which demonstrated a regional approach to accurately measuring AOD over urban areas—a notoriously difficult task due to surface reflectance variability.
