Evangelos Gerasopoulos is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on aerosol physics, optical properties, and long-range dust transport across the Eastern Mediterranean region. With a career spanning over two decades, he has made substantial contributions to our understanding of how mineral dust, particularly from Saharan sources, travels and transforms as it crosses the Mediterranean Basin. His most influential work, cited nearly 200 times, combined satellite data from TOMS, ground-based AERONET networks, and surface measurements to comprehensively characterize dust transport dynamics over the Eastern Mediterranean — a methodological approach that set standards for subsequent regional aerosol studies.
