About
Dr. Do-Yun Kim is a pioneering roboticist whose research bridges medical robotics and biomechanically-inspired locomotion systems. His most impactful work addresses two critical challenges: safe human-robot interaction in healthcare and high-performance legged locomotion. In 2022, Dr. Kim led the development of an inherently safe nasopharyngeal swab sampling robot, featuring a novel force restriction mechanism that ensures patient safety during autonomous operation. This work, which has already garnered 11 citations, was directly motivated by the respiratory virus pandemic and aims to protect medical staff from infection while enabling reliable sample collection. More recently, in 2024, Dr. Kim introduced HyperLeg, a biomechanics-inspired high-degree-of-freedom leg and toe mechanism for highly dynamic robotic motions.
