D. McMordie is a pioneering roboticist whose work has fundamentally shaped the field of biologically inspired locomotion. His research centers on the development of autonomous, legged robots capable of traversing complex and unstructured environments, with a particular focus on bridging the gap between terrestrial and aquatic mobility. McMordie is best known for his seminal contributions to the RHex project, a compliant-leg hexapod robot that revolutionized our understanding of dynamic running in machines.
