About
Chuan-Yu Wu is a pioneering researcher in robotics and automation, with a primary focus on intelligent manufacturing and sensor-guided robotic systems. His foundational work in robotic trajectory generation for shoe sole spraying, published in 2009, established methods for extracting surface geometry to automate complex industrial processes—a critical advancement for the leather goods industry. That same year, Wu developed an on-line visual seam tracking sensor system for laser beam welding, employing active laser-triangulation and a DSP-based vision camera to enable real-time, high-precision tracking of weld seams. This compact, modular system, designed to be mounted ahead of the welding torch, significantly improved the quality and efficiency of tailored blank welding. More recently, Wu has advanced into multi-robot collaboration with his 2025 work on FERMI (Flexible Radio Mapping), which combines a hybrid propagation model with scalable autonomous data collection to predict signal strength in large, occluded environments.
