About

A. Okigawa is a plasma physicist whose work has advanced the fundamental understanding of inductively coupled plasmas (ICPs), particularly through innovative optical diagnostics. His research focuses on non-equilibrium plasma systems, where he developed pioneering methods to map the spatial distribution of excited species within ICP reactors. His most impactful contribution, "Three Dimensional Optical Emission Tomography of an Inductively Coupled Plasma" (1997, 52 citations), introduced a robot-assisted optical system to measure the three-dimensional net production rate of excited argon species as a function of pressure and power. This work provided unprecedented insight into the internal dynamics of radio-frequency-driven plasmas. Complementing this, his earlier study (1996, 19 citations) detailed a similar apparatus for two-dimensional population density measurements under non-equilibrium conditions. Okigawa’s technical innovations in emission tomography have been instrumental in refining plasma modeling and reactor design, earning recognition for their precision and methodological novelty. His contributions remain a valuable reference for researchers exploring plasma diagnostics and industrial applications of ICP technology.
