About
A. K. Dupree is a leading astrophysicist whose research centers on stellar astrophysics, particularly the behavior and evolution of red supergiant stars. A key contributor to the study of Betelgeuse, Dupree has been instrumental in unraveling the mysteries behind the star’s dramatic “Great Dimming” in 2020. Using spectroscopic and photometric data from observatories like STELLA and Fairborn, Dupree’s work has revealed complex pulsation modes, including a fundamental mode at ~400 days and a long secondary period (LSP) of ~2400 days, whose origin remains a puzzle.
