A turbojet is a type of air-breathing jet engine that generates thrust by continuously ingesting air, compressing it, mixing it with fuel, igniting the mixture, and expelling the hot exhaust gases through a nozzle. In robotics and AI, turbojets are primarily employed in high-performance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), aerial cargo robots, and jet-powered VTOL drones where high thrust-to-weight ratios are essential for carrying meaningful payloads over significant distances. Unlike electric motors, turbojets offer substantially greater energy density, making them attractive for logistics and transportation applications requiring extended range or heavy lift. Their integration into autonomous systems demands sophisticated modeling, nonlinear identification techniques, and observer-based thrust estimation algorithms to maintain stability and precise control. Robotic systems are also used on the manufacturing side, performing automated quality inspection and geometric measurement of turbojet engine blades to ensure component integrity. As aerial robotics expands into commercial logistics and defense, turbojets represent a critical propulsion technology enabling capabilities that battery-electric systems currently cannot match.
