Volker Freudenthaler is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research has fundamentally advanced our understanding of aerosol characterization and remote sensing, with a particular focus on mineral dust, biomass burning particles, and volcanic ash. Based at the Meteorological Institute of Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, his work centers on the development and application of multiwavelength Raman and polarization lidar techniques to vertically resolve complex aerosol mixtures in the atmosphere.
