About
Heng Tang is a rising researcher in the field of intelligent soft materials, with a primary focus on shape memory polymers, biomimetic actuators, and stretchable tactile sensors. Their work bridges the gap between material science and soft robotics, aiming to create materials that can sense, adapt, and respond to their environment in lifelike ways. Tang’s most cited paper, “Stretchable triboelectric sensor array for real-time tactile sensing based on coaxial printing” (2023, 16 citations), introduces a novel fabrication method for flexible sensors that can detect touch and pressure—a critical advancement for wearable electronics and human-machine interfaces. In a more recent contribution (2025), Tang developed a reversible, stepless multiple shape memory polymer, enabling soft robots to undergo complex, programmable deformations. Another notable achievement is the design of a biomimetic polyurethane that synchronously changes both color and shape, inspired by the mimic octopus’s defensive strategies. This dual-responsive material holds promise for next-generation actuators and camouflaging soft robots. Though early in their career, Tang’s work is already shaping the future of adaptive, intelligent materials.
