About
Gyuree Kang is a robotics researcher whose work spans autonomous mobile systems, service robotics, and human-environment interaction. Based primarily at KAIST, Kang has built a distinguished research profile centered on deploying intelligent robots in real-world, complex environments — from urban apartment complexes to multi-floor buildings and high-speed racing circuits. Kang's most influential contribution is the development of assistive delivery robots capable of navigating GPS-denied environments using 3D point cloud map-based localization, a system introduced in a 2021 paper that has since accumulated 59 citations. This work directly addresses the practical challenges facing last-mile logistics automation. Building on this, a 2024 study on multi-floor indoor delivery robots (29 citations) extended these capabilities to the particularly demanding challenge of elevator navigation and vertical mobility in real buildings. Beyond logistics, Kang's research demonstrates impressive breadth: adaptive door-opening via mobile manipulators, drone-tethered grasping systems, V2X-independent autonomous driving models, and even a humanoid robot pilot capable of operating aircraft cockpits.
