About

Emir Cem Gezer is a robotics researcher whose work bridges the gap between accessible hardware and intelligent autonomy in marine and swarm systems. His primary research areas include autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), swarm robotics, and open-source marine software frameworks. Gezer’s most notable contribution is the development of the Acrobatic Low-cost Portable Hybrid AUV (ALPHA), a highly maneuverable, affordable, and portable vehicle designed to democratize underwater exploration. With a 10-inch diameter, 1.5-meter length, and weight of just 30 kg, ALPHA represents a significant step toward making advanced AUV technology accessible to a broader research community. In swarm robotics, Gezer pioneered an adaptive pattern formation algorithm that enables robot swarms to autonomously achieve circle formations regardless of swarm size, while simultaneously preventing collisions—a critical advancement for scalable multi-robot systems. He also leads the development of ROS-MVP (Robot Operating System Marine Vehicle Packages), an open-source framework providing off-the-shelf control and guidance solutions for AUVs and autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs). With his papers accumulating citations from researchers worldwide, Gezer’s work is shaping the future of affordable, intelligent, and collaborative robotic systems.
