Dov Levine is a theoretical physicist whose research spans the physics of active matter, soft condensed matter, and complex systems. He is best known for pioneering work on quasicrystals—discovering that atomic arrangements can be ordered but non-periodic—which fundamentally reshaped our understanding of solid-state structure. His more recent contributions focus on collective behavior in active particle systems, including a 2022 study on emergent synchronization and flocking in purely repulsive self-navigating particles, which shows how simple avoidance rules can produce coordinated group motion. With over 7,000 citations across his career, Levine’s work has had lasting impact on materials science and biological physics.
