About
Debarun Sengupta is pioneering the next generation of wearable electronics through his innovative work on nanofiber-based sensors. His research centers on developing flexible, skin-inspired tactile sensors for applications ranging from human motion monitoring to neuromorphic sensing and robotic interfaces. Sengupta’s major contributions lie in engineering electrospun carbon nanofiber (CNF) and polymer composite materials that are not only highly sensitive and stretchable but also stitchable and, in some cases, degradable. His most cited work, “Electrospun bundled carbon nanofibers for skin-inspired tactile sensing, proprioception and gesture tracking applications” (2021, 72 citations), introduced a novel piezoresistive sensor that can be seamlessly integrated into fabrics for real-time gesture and motion tracking. Expanding this concept, his 2023 paper on “Fabric-like Electrospun PVAc–Graphene Nanofiber Webs” (41 citations) demonstrated a degradable, ultralow-power piezocapacitive sensor, addressing critical needs for sustainable electronics.
