About
D. Dichek is a polar roboticist and engineer whose work has opened a new window into the most inaccessible environments on Earth. As a key member of the MELT project within the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration, Dichek helped design and operate Icefin, a long-range underwater robot that performed the first-ever direct exploration of the grounding zone of Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica. This groundbreaking mission, conducted from January 9–12, 2020, provided the first in situ observations of the critical region where the glacier meets the ocean, revealing unexpected patterns of melting and ice-ocean interactions.
