About
Chris Roman is a leading figure in underwater robotics and autonomous vehicle navigation, with a career focused on advancing how robots explore and map the most inaccessible environments on Earth—from the deep ocean to the ice-covered Arctic. His foundational work, "A Self‐Consistent Bathymetric Mapping Algorithm" (2007, 106 citations), introduced a transformative algorithm that corrects for navigation drift in deep-sea sonar mapping, dramatically improving the accuracy of seafloor maps generated by robotic systems.
