About
Andreas Rasche has made pioneering contributions to the field of service-oriented architectures (SOA) for remote laboratories, fundamentally advancing how robotics and control experiments can be conducted over the internet. His key research areas include distributed control systems, web service integration, and real-time remote experimentation. Rasche’s most influential work, “SOA Meets Robots – A Service-Based Software Infrastructure for Remote Laboratories” (2008, 24 citations), established a standardized approach using web services to integrate legacy systems into virtual laboratory environments. He further developed the Distributed Control Lab (DCL) at Hasso-Plattner-Institute, University of Potsdam, which enables students to conduct real-time experiments with physical equipment—including Lego Mindstorm robots and Foucault’s Pendulum—via the web.
