About

Zhisong Cen is a robotics researcher whose work focuses on safe and intelligent navigation for mobile robots operating in complex, dynamic environments. His primary research areas include obstacle avoidance, motion planning, and sensor-based perception. Cen’s major contributions lie in developing novel algorithms that allow robots to anticipate and react to moving obstacles with greater reliability. In his highly cited 2022 paper, “Obstacle Avoidance With Dynamic Avoidance Risk Region for Mobile Robots in Dynamic Environments” (66 citations), he introduced a method that uses an Extended Kalman Filter to estimate obstacle states and define a dynamic risk region, enabling robots to navigate uncertainty more effectively. Earlier, in his 2021 work “Motion Saliency-Based Collision Avoidance for Mobile Robots in Dynamic Environments” (10 citations), he proposed a saliency-driven approach that prioritizes the most dangerous moving objects, reducing computational load while improving safety. By addressing the critical challenge of real-time collision avoidance in unpredictable settings, Cen’s research is paving the way for more autonomous and responsive robotic systems in applications ranging from warehouse logistics to service robotics.
