About
Yue Ai is a robotics and biomedical engineering researcher whose work spans two closely related domains: surgical robotics for minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and medical image segmentation for urological applications. With a publication record accumulating over 100 citations, Ai has made meaningful contributions to the design, control, and human-machine interaction of robot-assisted surgical systems. Among Ai's most influential contributions is the development of an 8-degrees-of-freedom haptic device capable of translational, rotational, and grasping force feedback — a technically sophisticated platform that addresses a critical gap in surgeon tactile perception during robotic MIS. Complementing this hardware work, Ai has pioneered master-slave control strategies, intuitive kinematic algorithms, and distributed control architectures that collectively advance the safety and precision of robotic surgical platforms. More recently, Ai has expanded into deep learning-based medical imaging, introducing lightweight and high-performance neural network architectures — including ParaCM-PNet and LightCM-PNet — for prostate and prostate cancer segmentation in MRI and ultrasound. These systems show strong promise for clinical translation, particularly in guiding robotic biopsy procedures. Ai's interdisciplinary trajectory, bridging physical robotic systems with intelligent imaging pipelines, positions their research at a compelling frontier of precision medicine and surgical automation.
