About

Yuan Jing is a robotics researcher whose work spans mobile robot control, nonholonomic systems, and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). With a career bridging the mid-2000s through the late 2010s, Yuan has made meaningful contributions to the theoretical and practical challenges of autonomous robot navigation and control. Yuan's earliest and most influential work focuses on path following and stabilization control for wheeled mobile robots (WMRs) and tractor-trailer mobile robots (TTMRs) — complex nonholonomic, nonlinear systems notoriously difficult to control. Leveraging Lyapunov methods and recursive kinematic equations, Yuan developed rigorous control strategies for both single- and multi-steering configurations, with a 2005 paper on multi-steering TTMRs earning the most citations in their portfolio (7 citations). A 2011 study further extended this work by transforming multi-steering system kinematics into a power-form representation, enabling exponentially convergent stabilization controllers. Yuan also explored robot localization, contributing an active SLAM approach using Extended Kalman Filters and multi-objective optimization, and a novel SLAM method fusing Wi-Fi signal strength with RGB-D imagery for large-scale indoor environments. These efforts reflect a researcher consistently pushing toward more robust, real-world autonomous navigation solutions across diverse sensing and control paradigms.
