About
Xiancun Meng is a leading researcher in bioinspired flexible electronics, with a focus on developing high-performance strain and pressure sensors for wearable technology, soft robotics, and underwater applications. His work draws inspiration from arthropod mechanosensory systems—such as the slit sensilla of spiders and the trichobothria of scorpions—to design sensors with exceptional sensitivity, low hysteresis, and high fidelity. Among his most impactful contributions is a bioinspired, superhydrophobic paper-based strain sensor (140 citations), which enables reliable performance in wet or underwater environments. He also developed a high-fidelity, low-hysteresis bionic strain sensor (122 citations) that addresses critical limitations in soft machines. Meng’s research has been published in top venues, and his review on crack-based and hair-like sensors has become a key reference in the field. With over 380 total citations and a growing portfolio of recent work on hypersensitive pressure sensors and bionic recognition technologies, Meng is shaping the future of intelligent, nature-inspired sensing systems for human–machine interaction and environmental monitoring.
