About
Thomas Claverie is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of marine ecology and robotics, whose work is revolutionizing how we monitor and protect fragile coral reef ecosystems. His primary research areas include autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), marine biodiversity assessment, and robotic control systems for environmental monitoring. Claverie’s most significant contribution came from a landmark 2021 study demonstrating that underwater robots can provide fish biodiversity assessments comparable to those conducted by human scuba divers on coral reefs—a finding with 21 citations that has profound implications for scaling up reef monitoring efforts.
