Takumi Kobayashi is a pioneering roboticist whose work bridges the gap between soft robotics, haptic intelligence, and autonomous inspection systems. His most impactful contribution is the development of an automatic ladder-climbing inspection robot powered by extension-type flexible pneumatic actuators—a critical innovation for Japan’s aging infrastructure crisis. This robot safely navigates high-altitude ladders on bridges, chimneys, and tunnels, replacing dangerous human inspections and earning 7 citations since 2022. Kobayashi’s research also delves deeply into robotic perception and manipulation.
