About
Syed Sulaiman Kaja Mohideen is a robotics and automation engineer whose research has made meaningful contributions to industrial inspection technology and educational robotics. His most significant work centers on the development of specialized robotic systems for boiler header inspection in thermal power plants, particularly in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Malaysia's national electricity utility. Recognizing the hazardous and technically demanding nature of inspecting thick-walled, enclosed boiler headers — which can extend up to 20 meters in length — he led the design and real-world deployment of the "LS-01" inspection robot, a pioneering solution that has garnered 18 citations and represents a practical advancement in plant safety and maintenance automation. His complementary work on RS-485 interface design and 3D simulation environments using Webots further demonstrates a comprehensive, systems-level approach to robotic engineering. Beyond industrial applications, Mohideen has contributed to engineering education through the design of a low-cost 4-DOF SCARA robot, addressing the need for affordable academic robotics platforms in Malaysian universities. With a focused body of work published in 2012 accumulating nearly 50 citations collectively, his research reflects a strong commitment to applied robotics solving real-world industrial and educational challenges.
