Sungmok Hwang is a robotics and acoustic engineering researcher whose work has centered on sound source localization and the development of biologically inspired auditory systems for robotic platforms. His most significant contributions lie in designing artificial robot ears that replicate the human auditory system's remarkable ability to determine the direction of sound using only two input channels, a challenge that conventional microphone array approaches address with considerably more hardware complexity.
