About

Dr. Paul Barnes is a leading astronomical instrumentation scientist whose work centers on developing cutting-edge adaptive optics (AO) systems for ground-based telescopes. His major contribution is the engineering and commissioning of Robo-AO-2, a next-generation, fully automated laser AO system installed on the University of Hawaii 2.2-meter telescope on Maunakea in 2023.
