About

Mohit Gupta is a computer vision and computational imaging researcher whose work sits at the intersection of 3D sensing, light transport, and novel camera systems. His research has fundamentally advanced structured light 3D scanning, addressing long-standing limitations in sensor bandwidth and scene complexity. His pioneering "Diffuse Structured Light" framework (2012, 62 citations) tackled the challenge of recovering geometry in regions with interreflections and subsurface scattering, while his "MC3D: Motion Contrast 3D Scanning" system (2015, 80 citations) demonstrated how motion-based contrast could dramatically improve scanning performance in real-world environments. Gupta has also pushed the boundaries of unconventional imaging modalities, introducing "Passive Inter-Photon Imaging" (2021, 35 citations) to overcome dynamic range limitations in conventional cameras, and developing methods to extract rich geometric information from low-cost proximity sensors, including time-of-flight devices. His "Micro-Baseline Structured Light" work extends 3D imaging to compact, mobile platforms, and his "Blocks-World Cameras" project offers efficient scene representations for robotics. Collectively spanning industrial automation, robotic navigation, and augmented reality, Gupta's contributions have reshaped how researchers think about extracting 3D information from light.
