About
Mengxi Wu is a leading researcher in the field of flexible and stretchable electronics, with a primary focus on developing advanced sensors for wearable technology, soft robotics, and human–machine interfaces. Wu’s most impactful work includes the creation of a super-stretchable, highly sensitive carbon nanotube capacitive strain sensor (89 citations), which addresses critical challenges in linearity and hysteresis for soft robotic applications. Building on this, Wu nanoengineered an ultrathin flexible pressure sensor with superior sensitivity and perfect conformability (75 citations), introducing microstructured geometries to dramatically enhance performance. A standout achievement is the development of a bioinspired, environment-adaptable, and ultrasensitive multifunctional electronic skin (e-skin) that operates reliably in harsh conditions such as high temperatures, underwater, and corrosive chemicals—a significant leap beyond human-oriented designs. Wu has also pioneered a nanonewton-scale biomimetic mechanosensor, pushing the detection resolution of mechanical forces to unprecedented levels for prosthetics and healthcare. With over 198 total citations across these key papers, Wu’s work is defining the next generation of robust, high-performance electronic skins and sensors, inspiring innovations in healthcare monitoring and robotic sensation.
